Societies Activities
The Society is devoted to the dissemination of information about the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway throughout its 75 years of existence and beyond. Founded in 1950 the Society has grown steadily until there are now nearly 700 members in the UK as well as overseas. The Society aims to bring together all those with an interest in the "Lanky" whether it is historical research or modeling. Each year the Society publishes free to members 3 Journals (LYR Focus) and 4 all colour "magazines" which are packed full of information and photographs and drawings. Regional meetings are held to which members are invited. These are informal gatherings where you can discuss research or show off your latest models. The Society organises visits to places of 'Lanky' interest, such as preserved railways, stations, etc, and for those interested in research to archives such as the National railway Museum. It also works closely with the NRM, the Greater Manchester County Record Office and other relevant bodies to ensure ordinal artifacts, records and other materials are professionally preserved and accessible to all.
- Societies Activities
-
Formed in 1973, the society aims to collect and disseminate information
about the London and North Western Railway, its constituents and its successors.
We are interested in the infrastructure of the railway, the men and women
who made it work, as well as the engines and rolling stock which it built
and used. We aim to help modellers, preservationists, historians and those
with just a passing interest in the LNWR.
