The North Staffordshire Railway ordered 6 silk vans from Harrison and Camm in 1911 for the transport of silk from Congleton, Leek and Macclesfield to London. It is not known if these were replacements for existing stock or not. The wagon although included in the wagon diagram book was fitted with the vacuum brake, carriage wheels, buffers and a carriage style underframe. Full details of this wagon, like all most NSR rolling stock is obscure because of a fire at Derby which destroyed many of the records. We believe that the wagons survived into the LMS but it is not known if they survived to British Railways. There are no known photographs of this wagon so it is not possible to state a suitable livery. It may be that the wagon was painted in red oxide with white lettering like goods stock. Alternatively the wagon may have been in plain, that is unlined, Madder Lake with either gold or yellow shaded red lettering like Milk wagons.
