Diagram 126: 4 compartment corridor first brake One of three designs of brake first produced by the LNWR. The D126 with just four compartments seated only 16 passengers. They did not last long in this form and had been converted to brake composites to D210A before Grouping. This involved conversion of the two compartments next to the van portion to third class seating and addition of a second lavatory in the van portion. Diagram 370E: corridor all brake Some 26 brakes were built to this diagram of which 10 were constructed in the Great War as ward cars for the American ambulance trains. In addition a further batch of 16 were built for American ambulance trains but these did not enter service and were subsequently converted by the LNWR to D370E. All these carriages were dual fitted although the Westinghouse brake was removed during the thirties. The Chowbent model represents the first batch of carriages although by changing the bogies to the truss rod pattern the second may be produced.
