We have included details for all the liveries likely to have been used on North Eastern wagons during their life time. North Eastern Railway to 1923
Up to 1906 wagon body dark grey, black iron work with white lettering shaded
black, service stock blue with white lettering. Brake vans were brown with yellow
lettering. After 1906 the body and body iron work were grey for most vehicles
probably including service stock and brake vans with white lettering. In later
years brakes were red oxide.
Fitted wagons up to 1911 were crimson lake with gold possibly white lettering. From 1911 fitted stock was painted indian red, lettered white.
London and North Eastern Railway 1923 to 1948
Unfitted stock grey, black iron work beneath the solebar with white lettering.
Fitted stock red oxide with black iron work beneath the solebar. From 1925 brake
vans were also red oxide.
British Railways from 1948
Many unfitted wagons bare timber or painted grey, lettering white on a black
patch. No body iron work was painted black. Fitted stock bauxite with solebars
often black, roofs dark grey; white lettering.
In all cases we suggest the use of Humbrol number 100 for the floors.
