Great Central Railway to 1923
Wagon body colour medium grey, roofs probably white when new quickly degenerating
to a grey colour, with white lettering. Gunpowder vans were a bright red colour.
London and North Eastern Railway 1923 to 1948
Unfitted stock grey, black iron work beneath the solebar with white lettering.
Fitted stock red oxide with black iron work beneath the solebar.
British Railways from 1948
Many unfitted wagons bare timber or painted grey, lettering white on a black
patch. No body iron work was painted black. Fitted stock bauxite with solebars
often black, roofs dark grey; white lettering.
