Pricing and availability

This high sided goods wagon was introduced in the late 1890's and was probably rated at 8 tons. It originally had the single shoe acting on one wheel brake on one side only. At a latter date this brake would be applied to both sides.

Whilst exact numbers are not known it is thought that several hundred vehicles of this type of wagon would have built over the years and would have seen an active life of around 30 years. However it is not likely that many would have survived beyond the mid thirties. Once a common sight in goods yards in Scotland and Northern England in particular the west coast. After the introduction of common user arrangements during the Great War it is likely that some wagons would have ventured further south.

Detailed information on Glasgow & South Western wagons is limited at present but a lot of research is being undertaken by the G & SWR Association. A census of rolling stock in 1922 revealed a fleet of 1054 high sided goods wagons of which 725 were rated at 10 tons.
Parts to fit brake gear to both sides are supplied with this model.
