Diagram 67 was used by the Caledonian for all the standard vans, size and design varyied! First built around 1910 the van portrayed by our model formed a substantial part of the Caledonian Railways fleet of modern covered goods vans handed over to the LMS at the time of grouping in 1923. Many of these vehicles survived until the early days of British Rail but would have been gradually phased out in the mid to late 1950's. Several versions of this designs were introduced, later versions were through fitted for express passenger services with oil axle boxes. Whilst we have seen no specific evidence of build numbers it is believed from photographic as well as narrative evidence that several hundred were built. Most were built inhouse by the Caledonian Railway. This vehicle would have been a common sight throughout Scotland, North of England and as far south as the English Midlands, and (occasional) further south - especially during WW1 after the introduction of the common user arrangement.
