The centre door high sided goods wagons were classified as Diagram 24 in the Diagram issued early in the 20th century. This vehicle is based on a drawing dated in 1916 which included the either side brake shoe arrangement, made compulsory by the Board of Trade in 1911. The basic form of this wagon dates back to the early 1900's and early versions of this wagon were rated at 8 tons capacity with single shoe brake on one side. Later versions we re-rated at 10 tons capacity. There are few records indicating the number of built, although it is believed that several hundred were produced. The majority of these vehicles would have been used in industrial Scotland however they would have been seen throughout the UK. It is very probable that these vehicles would have survived to the mid 1940's, however it is unlikely that any survived to BR ownership.
