These clerestory carriages were introduced for long distance services
operated by the Midland at the turn of the century. They were used in
both the Midlands own and Scottish Joint services worked in partnership
with the NBR and the G&SWR. |
| Diagram 379: 4 ton meat wagon Produced in hand braked, piped or fully fitted versions this was the standard meat van for many years. After introduction of the refrigerated meat vans many wagons were converted to ordinary vans. |

Diagram 418: fruit & milk van Based on the same 25' floor plan as the Diagram 420 & 529 vans these vehicles provided express transport of perishable products on passenger services. Some 25 vans were built to this pattern in 1893. The final withdrawal took place in 1944. |

Diagram 420: parcels van Based on the same 25' floor plan as the Diagram 418 & 529 vans these vehicles provided express transport of mail & parcels as part of express passenger services. |
| Diagram 529: brake van Based on the same 25' floor plan as the Diagram 418 & 420 these brake vans used by the Midland Railway through out the country. Over 370 of these vans were built and would have been a frequent sight on many Midland passenger services. |
