British Railways |
On the date of its formation in 1948 British Rail acquired the rolling stock of virtually all railway companies in existence in the United Kingdom up to that date. There were a few notable exceptions; some specialist vehicles such as salt vans, although these were few and far between, and some ex private owner wagons in service with the recently formed National Coal Board.
